What is subpixel accuracy?
A pixel is the smallest physical unit in the video image. Although the video image contains several thousand pixels, the edges of an object rarely fall exactly on the boundaries of the pixel in the camera. Subpixel is used so that tools can accurately calculate an image’s edge location, the diameter of a blob, or a blob centroid's position to accuracies of less than one pixel. Download the Subpixel Resolution document to understand how IMPACT Software tools use subpixel resolution interpolation to find a subpixel point.
What are some guidelines on using color vs. grayscale camera?
A color camera is useful when a grayscale camera is not capable of creating a significantly detectable contrast between two features. However, as a general rule of thumb, an image feature must be at least three pixels wide to be reliably imaged when a color camera is used, where as 2 pixels might yield the same results when a grayscale camera is used. Click Color versus Grayscale document to read more about this topic.
What models of Camera Link Cameras does PPT VISION support?

What is the difference between a 'get' data and 'set' data?
When working in IMPACT Control Panel Manager (CPM), “Get Data” is when you want to use or display the data from the vision device on the control panel , and “Set Data” is when you want to edit the information (for example, tolerance adjustment, ROI placement) on the vision device from your control panel.
As the number of blobs increased the time will increase. If there are a lot of small blobs the blob tool will take a lot of time. This is because of all the information that is associated with each blob. If you want to save time, shut off the “output blob list” display in the properties of the blob tool. This will still run blob but not generate the display for them. If you still need to see the blobs then you will have to expect the long run time.
How is PPT VISION’s software different than the others?
Included in the IMPACT Software Suite, the IMPACT Vision Program Manager (VPM) now has more than 120 tools including OCR, blob analysis, circle gage, circular pattern find, line find, sub-pixel gauging and many other advanced vision tools that allow users to create vision programs to suit a broad range of applications. A pre-configured operator display panel is built within VPM so inspection data and pass/fail results can be displayed at the touch of a button, right within the same software application. The drag-and-drop, icon based programming allows users to create a vision program in minutes. IMPACT Control Panel Manager (CPM), also included in the IMPACT Software Suite, has more than 60 fully-configurable controls, allowing users to create custom, professional control panels with multiple image displays, data charts, real-time inspection results with password-protected panels, frames and tabs. The programming interface in CPM has been revolutionized with the 8.0 production release, allowing users to create advanced control panel applications in one-third of the time taken using the previous version of software.
How much does the IMPACT Software Suite cost?
IMPACT Software is included for free with every IMPACT Intelligent Camera purchase.
HARDWARE SUPPORT
How is PPT VISION hardware different than the others?
IMPACT is a family of high performance, easy to use intelligent camera product line that covers a wide range of performance and price point requirements. PPT VISION currently offers 17 different IMPACT hardware models, including color and grayscale, across 3 different form factors. All 17 models are supported by IMPACT Software Suite so vision programs can be transferred from one model to the next.
I get a "Image Failed: ImageStatusBits::KOverflowErr!" error in my log?
You will get this error if the motion control is sending too many hardware triggers faster than the image processing. The cameras have a built in image buffer and when too many triggers come in at a high speed (before the IMPACT device has a chance to process the images) the buffer will not allow any more images in until the IMPACT device is done processing the current image. This is usually caused by a “noisy” trigger or simply triggering faster than the inspection processing time.
I get a "Image Failed: ImageStatusBits::KUnderflowErr!" error in my log?
For the C-series, you will get this error when the image data is not getting to the processor. This usually means that the DSL cable connections are loose, the DSL cable is damaged, or there is noise interference in the DSL cable. If you see this error with the A- or T- series you should contact PPT VISION as this may be an internal malfunction.
Are the IMPACT inputs and outputs sinking or sourcing?
The I/O can be wired in either configuration. Please refer to the IMPACT hardware guides for more information. Hardware guides for each of the IMPACT hardware models can be found here.
What are the hardware requirements for the Client PC?
The Client PC (the computer that runs the IMPACT software) requires:- Intel®, AMD®, or VIA® x86-class processor -minimum 1.2 GHz; 64-bit processors are supported with Windows® Vista® and Windows 7®
- Microsoft® Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7
- 512MB or more of RAM, 1 GB required for Vista and Windows 7 (2 GB recommended)
- 800MB or more of available hard disk space
- 10/100Mbps Ethernet connection
- Monitor display resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater
