 IMPACT Software Suite
 Technical Paper Available for Download

White Paper Cover As part of the initiative to improve IMPACT software usability, we have restructured the IMPACT software package so that you can choose which individual software component you want to use based on your application needs. Note that we have also changed the name of the IMPACT software package from IMPACT Inspection Builder to IMPACT Software Suite. We feel this name more clearly reflects IMPACT's new flexibility and power. IMPACT Software Suite consists of three modules: KickStart, Vision Program Manager (VPM), and Control Panel Manager (CPM). Each of these modules work independently to create advanced, powerful, but easy-to-use vision solutions to suit a broad range of applications from simple to complex. To learn more about how each of these software components work together to cover a broad range of applications, download a copy of our technical paper titled "Make Advanced Vision System Work For You" from our website, or click on the link below.

 Vision Tool Highlights
Composite Tools for 1D Barcode Reading

Barcode There are many different types of barcode symbols. The most common types printed on retail packaging are UPC and EAN codes. Barcodes are typically read by scanning a point of light across the symbol or by capturing a video image of the symbol. The lengths and positions of the reflections (white spaces) and no reflections (black bars) are then analyzed and the code data is extracted. We often sell and install applications where the vision systems are required to communicate with third-party barcode readers to fulfill our customers' inspection requirements. With the flexibility of the powerful tools available in IMPACT VPM, several Composite Tools have been added so IMPACT users can now analyze barcodes without having to acquire any additional third-party hardware or software. Once these Composite Tools are installed on the IMPACT vision device, they are available in the tool palette and can be inserted right into your inspection task. The following barcode-reading Composite Tools are ready for download today:UPC-A (EAN-13), Code 39, Code 128 Auto, Interleaved 2 of 5, Pharmacode, and Postnet Code. PPT VISION is committed to developing additional barcode tools to help you generate more IMPACT sales. Please contact your designated PPT Business Development Manager if you want us to develop a new Composite Tool for your needs. In addition, a technical session will be held specifically to cover Code Reading during the upcoming 2006 PPT VISION Global Partner Conference. This technical session will also cover 2D barcode reading and OCR. For more information about code reading or other technical subjects to be covered during the conference, please refer to the GPC Training Agenda by clicking on the link below.

Replacement and Spare Parts for Legacy Product Line
 Price List Available for Download

PPT VISION has put together a Legacy Spares Price List which includes prices for spare and replacement parts needed to maintain discontinued PPT VISION product lines. Some spare components are available for Passport Analog, Scout Analog, Passport DSL, Scout DSL, PC accessories, and cabling for lighting products that are no longer being used with the IMPACT product line. Standard partner discounts apply on all items included in this price list. The Legacy Spares Price List will be updated regularly based on product availability. The most recent updates include a 50% price reduction of the Analog Boardset (Framegrabber board and Image Processor board). For partners who have existing customers with Analog systems running in production, this is a good time to acquire spare boardsets as they will no longer be available once this last batch of inventory is sold. Visit the secured Partner Log In page to access a copy of this price list today.

 Application Corner
 Color Fuse Inspection

Fuse Panel In this issue's Application Corner, we are featuring a colored fuse inspection application where an IMPACT T23 Color Camera is used to inspect a fuse panel. This application requires the vision system to verify that each fuse is plugged into the appropriate location, and to check for missing and extra fuses. Using the Color Checker tool available in VPM, an ROI is placed over each fuse where a template of the individual fuse background color is trained. This same tool is also used to detect an absence of a fuse, or if a fuse is plugged into a location where it is supposed to be left vacant. In this application, the Color Checker tool alone is able to fulfill 3 inspection requirements, i.e. incorrect fuse; missing and extra fuse. Having the ability to fulfill multiple inspections with a single tool means faster inspection speeds so customers can achieve higher production throughput. This application example was developed by PPT VISION application engineers and is not specific to a particular installed application. The vision program is written so it can be used in other similar applications, such as color verification for wiring/cables, push buttons or other similar colored products. Contact your designated PPT Business Development Manager if you want to obtain a copy of the completed vision programs and control panel files.
